The cathedrals are mainly built by the Catholics who have strong collections with Rome.
Protestants, on the other hand, hated the corrupted Vatican church and wanted to establish a direct connection with Jesus. At the meantime, they didn’t collect massive fortunes as Catholics so they could not afford building grand Cathedrals.
The Catholics were the majority in the East in earlier years, including settlers from France and Ireland. They built cathedrals there.
