Job Description
The VMware Modern Application Platform Business Unit (MAPBU) is looking for a Technical Program Manager to join us in building the Tanzu portfolio and transform how the world deploys and scales software. This role will work across the engineering teams to be the ‘glue’ that facilitates the flow of features to our customers while keeping our quality bar high. As a TPM at VMware your primary role is to effectively deliver software of highest value.
This role is specifically targeted for the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Integrated (TKGI) program. TKGI simplifies the deployment and operation of multiple Kubernetes clusters so you can run and manage containers at scale on private and public clouds. It uses technologies such as Cloud Foundry BOSH, Tanzu Ops Manager, VMware NSX-T and Harbor to address a broad range of Kubernetes challenges such as deployment, upgrade, patching, networking, security, storage, monitoring, and logging.
You
You love helping individuals, teams, and programs reach their full potential. Communication, group dynamics, decision making, servant leadership, and coaching are your passions. You have an insatiable appetite for learning new things and continuously improving organizations.
You’re able to keep short-term, tactical details of a product release in focus, clearly visible to teams and stakeholders, and under control. At the same time, you’re working towards the long-term goal of building a sustainable software development and release system that will scale for years to come.
You will build the mechanisms that allow the program to understand its progress towards its near and long term goals and illuminate paths to get there. You’ll enable the program to connect those goals to overall Business Unit and VMware Objectives, maintaining alignment within the overall roadmap.
You are capable of understanding distributed systems, how they work, and partnering with engineering teams to set the technical direction, vision and strategy.
This role includes but is not limited to helping build systems and feedback loops around the TKGI program, delivering timely and healthy product releases, providing feedback and coaching to Engineering and Product teams and leadership within the program, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement and learning within MAPBU R&D. As the program landscape changes, this role will also include ensuring those transitions are healthy and resilient.
Desired Skills / Experience:
Technical Program Management across complex programs in which several product teams are delivering product features and managing dependencies with other programs and products within a large portfolio.
Familiarity and experience with agile software delivery methodologies and lean governance.
Defining, establishing, and maintaining a consistent, traceable decision-making process across a heterogeneous landscape of stakeholders.
Gathering metrics and building reports and dashboards that detail program health including customer success, project execution, and team health.
Facilitating planning and coordination efforts with Go-To-Market teams to support their schedules and planning, tracking, and communicating product delivery expectations with potential and existing customers
Fluency in Mandarin is a plus.
BA/BS in Computer Science or related fields is a plus.
At VMware, our mission is to enable customers to build a new class of applications, leveraging big and fast data, and doing all of this with the power of cloud-independence.
