As I've said before, Confucianism is absurdly simple once you get past all the BS: "just do what you're told".
To be more specific, the core revolves around the idea of defining interpersonal relationships:
The son kowtows to the father
The student kowtows to the teacher
The subject kowtows to the ruler
You see a pattern here? Basically your "tow" is going to do a lot of kow-ing. Well, that is unless you happen to be top dog, in which case Confucianism works out great for you.
Kowtowing to your elders isn't only hard on the knees, it's also a recipe for intellectual stagnation. If you photocopy the generation before you in all your thinking... what room is there for progress and innovation?
