My family has a running gag where we give my oldest son a flying toy and see how long it takes him to lose it. It started with an $80 remote control airplane when he was 10 or so and we've been through a $40 air shark (plus $30 in helium) when he was 11 and two $15 quadcopters when he was 12 and 13. This year it was a $50 quadcopter. I know what you're saying, why spend it if you know he'll lose it? Because it's funny as hell every time. We parents and grandparents place bets behind his back. Nothing better in life than winning $50 off my mother in law who always bets on him still having it after 24 hours.

For the record the shortest time was the air shark which I told him to put a string on before he went outside with it. It literally lasted less than a minute. I remember driving along behind it as it floated off higher and higher and higher. That was fun.
