下面这句话：Two of the infected patients in the UK travelled from Nigeria, so it is likely that they are suffering from the West African strain, which is generally mild, but this is as yet unconfirmed.
最后半句话“but this is as yet unconfirmed” 中的 as 如何解释，能否直接删除？

只去掉as: but this is yet unconfirmed 不能理解成
but this has been confirmed 吧？ 记得yet 通常用在否定句中。
unconfirmed 具有否定意义，我认为 but this is yet unconfirmed 理解成
but this is not confirmed.

as，如上所述的。去掉了就是用法不地道了。思维问题，不理解也正常

as可以理解为as of now，强调到现在为止。所以原句可以理解成"but this is/ as of now/ yet unconfirmed"。这种细枝末节的东西其实不必管。
