Milito: ‘I rejected Inter’
By Football Italia staff
Former Inter striker Diego Milito reveals he turned them down, four years before his eventual move.
The Argentinian was the hero of the Nerazzurri’s treble campaign of 2009-10, scoring 30 goals in all competitions, including two in the Champions League final.
“I always decide with my heart,” Milito told Ole in his homeland, having rejoined his boyhood side, Racing Club.
“I once had the opportunity to go to Inter, and I decided it wasn’t the right time. I was saying no to Inter, but I went to [Real] Zaragoza [in 2005] to realise the dream of playing with my brother [Gabriel].
“I also thought I’d play a lot more in Spain, and that’s what happened. Then Chelsea were interested in me, and I said no to them, so I went back to Genoa [in 2008].
“I had a fantastic year, I finished my cycle, then I went to Inter, although in different circumstances.
“From the day I left Racing, I knew I’d come back. I thought I’d be away for three years, and it turned out to be 11.”
