Thohir: ‘Champions League objective’
By Football Italia staff
Inter President Erick Thohir reiterates that ‘Champions League qualification is the goal’ and hopes for an ‘immediate reaction’ this weekend.
The Nerazzurri were one win away from becoming Winter Champions before a shock defeat at San Siro against Sassuolo on Sunday.
The setback saw them slip into third place, but Thohir isn’t worried as he doesn’t think the team are aiming for a title win.
“I hope Mancini and the players react immediately. I expect that they’ll get back up starting from this weekend’s match,” he said to Goal Indonesia.
“I don’t think there’s any need to panic, because our objective remains to qualify for the Champions League. It’s the media and the fans who demand the Scudetto.
“I think Sunday’s game left us speechless, but that’s football. We had a 50 per cent chance of winning and losing. We constantly attacked, but the ball wouldn’t go in.
“I’m quite satisfied with the performance of the team this season. This is a new team, to which nine new players were added in the summer.
“Our goal is to qualify for the Champions League, not to be Italian champions. But if we manage to win it then even better.”
