international forward Roberto Mancini who announced his
retirement as a player at the end of the season on Thursday:
1964: Born November 27, Jesi, Italy
1978: Joined Bologna as a schoolboy
1981: Serie A debut for Bologna, aged 16
1982: Joins Sampdoria
1984: Debut for Italy as a substitute in 2-0 friendly win
against Canada
1990: Wins European Cup Winners' Cup with Sampdoria.
1991: Sampdoria win Serie A title. Mancini scores 12 goals
in the season.
1992: In Sampdoria side who lose 1-0 after extra-time
against Barcelona in European Cup final.
1994: Makes last of 36 appearances for Italy in friendly
against Germany.
1997: Stuns Sampdoria fans when he leaves club after 15
seasons to join Lazio
1999: Wins European Cup Winners' Cup with Lazio against
Mallorca and follows up with European Super Cup win over
Manchester United.
2000: Announces retirement at end of season to move into
coaching.
