Mancini Offered Chelsea Job
Inter boss Roberto Mancini has been offered the chance to take over at
Chelsea next season, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
Mancini’s season in charge at San Siro has been a hostile one, filled full
of off-field dramas and dressing room quarrels.
The Gazzetta dello Sport today claims that Mancini has three options
available to him at the end of the season, regarding his future.
If he wins Serie A tomorrow afternoon, he can choose to stay and lead Inter
into the 2008/09 season. If Roma pip the Nerazzurri to the Scudetto, Mancini
will then be sacked or forced to resign. Or alternatively, Mancini can accept
an offer from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to take charge at Stamford
Bridge.
Current Blues coach Avram Grant is highly likely to lose his job, even if the
club defeats Manchester United in the final of the Champions League next week.
Abramovich is looking for a manager who has experience with working with a
squad packed with talent and personalities, and believes Mancini, who has
also won two successive Scudetti, will be the perfect man.
Mancini also has the added advantage of spending several weeks in the English
Premiership on loan at Leicester City at the end of his playing career in
2001.
