Global Intern Program
The Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy is now recruiting exceptional and motivated interns for its Global Intern Program. Candidates may choose to intern on teams such as Initiatives, Communications & Media, Editing & Writing, and Program & Research Assistants. Successful candidates will have a background in international relations and a strong desire to work in an international setting relating to global policy. Candidates should able to contribute a substantial amount of time to the center each week and participate in the program from mid-September through mid-June.
The program offers:
• An International Environment - Become part of an English speaking international atmosphere where interns can apply skills and knowledge learned in class to Carnegie-Tsinghua Center projects and activities
• Access - Gain access to the center’s alumni network of interns that have studied at universities such as John Hopkins, Georgetown, American University, Princeton, Yale, Cambridge, the National University of Singapore, and Warwick University.
• Career & Personal Development – Participate in an exciting professional development program run by the center’s scholars and professionals
• Opportunity - Become a critical part of a newly established and unique Think Tank that hosted over 90 events last year on topics such as international economics and trade, nonproliferation and arms control, climate change and energy, as well as global regional security issues like North Korea, Iran and Afghanistan
• Exposure – Work closely with the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center’s Chinese and International scholars as well as representatives from the government, business, diplomatic, and academic communities in Beijing

The Carnegie–Tsinghua Center for Global Policy is a joint U.S.–China research center based at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. The Center was established in April 2010 through a cooperative agreement between the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Tsinghua University School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy is now recruiting exceptional and motivated interns for its Global Intern Program. Candidates may choose from internships on one of the following teams:
• Initiatives
• Communications & Media
• Editing & Writing
• Program & Research Assistants
The Carnegie–Tsinghua Center will bring together senior scholars and experts from the United States, China, and the international community for collaborative research on common global challenges, including issues related to nonproliferation and arms control, international economics and trade, climate change and energy, and other global and regional security issues such as North Korea, Afghanistan, and Iran.
Successful candidates will have a background in international relations and a strong desire to work in an international setting relating to global policy. Candidates should able to contribute a substantial amount of time per week to the center and participate in the program from mid-September through mid-June.

General requirements for all Global Interns:
• Be able to serve as an intern from mid-September to mid-June
• Be able to contribute a substantial amount of time each week outside of classroom hours
• Be enrolled in a college or university or be a recent graduate
• Have a background in International Relations or a desire to work in the field
• Complete an online application by August 25th which includes a writing sample and a list of references
Initiatives Team
Successful candidates for the Initiatives Team will have strong attention to detail and demonstrate effective communication skills. Applicants must be reliable team contributors and be able to adapt to steep learning curves. Organization skills and the ability to multi-task are required. Candidates must be able to negotiate and interact with a wide range of people including scholars, vendors, event staff, and contributing teams.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Defining events by determining the topic and identifying speakers, venues, catering options etc.
• Preparing for events including registration, pamphlet creation, event equipment, and conference room setup
• Providing onsite event logistics, support, and management
• Providing post event support by reviewing strengths and weakness of the event and sending out thank you letters
• Serving as contact for event participants including scholars, professionals, and government officials
• Working in conjunction with the Communications & Media and Editing & Writing teams to ensure that events are successfully marketed and publicized including press releases, invitations, and other event materials
Editing & Writing Team
Successful candidates for the Editing & Writing Team will have superior writing skills and a strong comprehension of the English and/or Chinese language. Candidates should have a basic understanding of international relations and an understanding of current events in order to properly draft required materials. Applicants should have superior communication skills and be able to work efficiently in teams or on individual projects.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Synthesizing complex and nuanced dialogue discussion into concise event summaries for publication and dissemination
• Assisting scholars in preparing articles, reports, and other publications
• Translating text from Chinese to English and from English to Chinese
• Drafting other documents including flyers, pamphlets, posters, invitations, agendas, and publications
• Coordinating materials for events such as press releases and announcements across various media platforms
• Working with other Global Intern teams to meet deadlines and deliver quality written documents
Program & Research Assistant Team
Successful candidates for the Program & Research Assistant Team will have strong attention to detail and be able to work independently. Program & Research Assistants should have knowledge of their assigned scholars’ field of expertise and have an interest in conducting research in that field. The assistant should have superior communication and organizational skills as well as research experience.
Carnegie-Tsinghua Resident Scholars specialize in the following research areas:
• U.S. and China foreign policy, global and regional security issues
• Non-proliferation, arms control; China-India relations
• EU-China Relations
• Impact of Chinese public opinion on foreign policy
• Global and regional implications of China’s rise
• U.S.-China bilateral relations
• Chinese public diplomacy and soft power
• China’s trade and investment relations with the developing world
• Impact of China’s core values on foreign policy
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Serving as a liaison between their assigned scholar and the various intern teams
• Enhancing communication between the scholar and the center
• Updating the center staff and online calendars on their scholar's events and publications
• Working closely with scholars and the intern teams to plan and organize their scholar’s events
• Conducting research as directed by their assigned scholar
• Assisting their assigned scholar in producing articles, reports, and other publications
Collecting and updating the media coverage of the assigned scholar to the center
Communications &Media Team
Successful candidates for the Communications & Media team will have computer literacy and a basic knowledge in graphic and web design, Web 2.0, an HTML. Candidates should have superior writing ability and a basic understanding of international relations. Candidates should have experience with content management systems (CMS) and be highly organized. Successful applicants should be able to work independently or in team settings and be able to meet suspenses and deadlines.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Overseeing the centers contact database system to include maintaining, updating, and importing new contacts
• Conducting media outreach and responding to press inquiries
• Updating the center’s website
• Preparing and publishing the center’s monthly e-newsletter
• Creating and maintaining branding materials and other visual aids to include podium banners, publication covers and layouts, event backdrops and posters, and video productions
• Producing templates for the center’s letterhead, fax covers, power points briefings, e-newsletter, and event announcements and invitations
• Managing the inventory and library of all center publications and other materials
• Recording events though the use of audio video and photography
• Maintaining effective communications between the center’s leadership, the scholars, intern teams, and external organizations
