About the Team
We are looking for a very talented and self-motivated Software Engineer (FTE and Intern) in working with us to build out our next-generation petabyte scale, globally distributed storage platform (MObStor) in the Cloud Services organization. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to build a massively scalable storage and servicing system, used by dozens of online properties at Yahoo!
You will be working in challenging, cutting-edge technology areas and be able to leverage and culminate your skills and knowledge in areas of distributed-systems, servers, scalability, performance, storage, data migration, data replication and networking – in building out world-class systems deployed across the globe. You will have both the opportunity and the privilege to work alongside world-class engineers and leaders.
About the Job
1. Design and Implement different modules of the system
2. Help write design and architecture specs
3. Help roll out the system to Yahoo! global footprint of farms
Minimum Job Qualifications
1. Experience working with large UNIX-based distributed systems
2. Solid fundamental computer science knowledge and a desire to apply theory to solve real-world, large-scale distributed system problems
3. Understanding of engineering trade-offs to solve complex distributed systems and storage problems
4. Familiarity with development in Unix/C/C++ environment and an understanding of Object-Oriented programming methodology
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills and collaboration skills
6. An ability to work easily with other team members and to drive project to completion
Preferable Job Qualifications
1. Familiarity with design, implementation and performance of file-systems, content delivery and large-scale distributed systems
2. Understanding of scalability issues in design high-performance, high-availability servers
3. Familiarity with NFS, HTTP, TCP/IP is very desirable
