We are recruiting a Research/Office Assistant to provide research assistance, administrative support and office management support to the Access China team
Accountabilities:
In the role you would be expected to:
Percentages in brackets indicate approximate time allocation
Data collection and entry (40%)
Assist Access China team in identifying on- and off-line data sources and collating data into spreadsheets. Liaise with data providers, including government and commercial entities, where necessary to ensure successful data collection.
Desk research (15%)
Assist Access China team in identifying and securing on- and off-line sources of qualitative information to support the completion of research projects. Assist in fact-checking for Access China reports.
Marketing support (5%)
Assist Access China team in maintaining Chinese-language social media (i.e. Weibo) accounts, and other similar marketing support.
Administrative/logistical support (10%)
Assist Access China team members with ad hoc administrative tasks including but not limited to: making travel arrangements, setting up meetings, organising events etc. Liaise with group HR and FESCO on non-confidential issues relating to Access China staff employment e.g. visa/work permit applications, staff benefits, taxation.
Office management (25%)
Liaise with relevant internal and external parties to ensure smooth functioning of office environment. Ensure timely communication to Beijing staff of office-related issues and events. Parties to be liaised with include:
External IT technicians (in case of hardware failure)
Group IT (for routine maintenance)
Vendors of office stationary and supplies (drinking water, printing paper etc.)
Building management (maintenance work, cleaning etc.)
Local authorities (fire drills, safety inspections etc.)
Other parties that are essential to the functioning of the office environment
Reception (5%)
Receive office visitors, handle incoming and outgoing company mail and take switchboard phone calls.
Experience, skills and professional attributes:
To succeed in the role you must have:
Quality of research and administrative assistance – feedback from Access China Team
Tertiary education degree preferred
Some experience working in an office environment preferred
Familiarity with Chinese statistical data an advantage
Knowledge of Word, Excel, internet research
Fluent Mandarin
Basic working knowledge of English (should be able to read and draft internal emails, take calls at reception)
You will be able to demonstrate:

We are recruiting a Deputy Economist to assist in running econometric models on China and its provinces and cities for the purpose of producing forecasts within a given product brief and generating bespoke forecasts for clients as required. The candidate is responsible to write up summary economic forecasts for provinces and to build ongoing relationships with data suppliers to ensure the quality of the underlying data. The role will also work under the Deputy Director in Beijing to build a set of coherent and consistent forecasts across China and contribute directly to the China Regional Forecasting Service.
Accountabilities:
In the role you would be expected to:
Forecasting
Run the models on a regular basis to meet publishing deadlines. Assess, monitor and adjust the output from the models and check the plausibility and defensibility of the forecasts, as well as consistency with the written analysis. Recommend changes to the forecasting methodology to ensure the accuracy, reliability and consistency of the economic forecasts.
Writing
Write up and update summary economic forecasts for each of the provinces. The forecast should be internally consistent and coherent making full use of all available information and taking into consideration the regional consensus view. Respond to all queries raised during the checking process.
Econometric modeling
Support the technical framework and ensure that the output integrates with other editorial systems. Assist in developing single-equation models to produce custom forecasts for clients.
Economic data
Protect and enhance the quality of the economic data used within the models. Run regular checks on the data to maintain accuracy, reliability and consistency.
Data suppliers
Work closely with data suppliers to make sure the economic data are updated accurately and in a timely fashion. Monitor changes in external data sources and work closely with suppliers to enhance the quality of EIU data.
Team work
Work closely with the China editorial teams in Asia, US and in Europe to help them interpret and write up the forecasts. The forecasts will be cross-checked by editors within these teams and any issues raised during the sense check must be responded to.
Actively join in discussions on the implications of the EIU global assumptions and events impacting on the region. Participate in the development of consensus views for the region. Co-operate with colleagues covering China to ensure consistency between reports.
Client relationships
Assist in present the forecast results in non-technical language to clients and respond to client queries in relation to published data and bespoke forecasts undertaken for clients.
Experience, skills and professional attributes:
To succeed in the role you must have:
Degree in Economics (with a large weight in statistics and applied econometrics desirable)
Experience analyzing economic statistics is highly desirable
Detailed knowledge of Chinese official data and statistical resources
Knowledge of applied econometric modeling desirable
Detailed knowledge of China and its regions
Strong Excel spreadsheet skills
Knowledge of main econometric packages and model solution software an advantage
Chinese (native speaker level) and English, (both written and oral)
You will be able to demonstrate:
Ability to take a project from conception through to implementation
Good project management skills and ability to work to deadlines
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to express complex ideas using non-technical language
A strong sense of client needs and the ability to deliver on these
