Group Overview
Using our voices to communicate continues to be the most natural and the easiest way to exchange ideas and thoughts. At MSR Asia, the Speech Group is working hard to turn their ideas into reality and improve spoken-language technologies, enable human-computer voice interaction, and enrich human-to-human voice communications. The group’s current focus includes speech recognition to enable computers to facilitate access to data, help create content, and perform tasks; speech synthesis to enable computers to speak with a human-sounding voice, to respond and provide information, and to read; and spoken-document retrieval and processing to enrich communication between people.

Roles & Responsibilities
We require two students to perform research into the exciting area of automatically trainable speech synthesis. This technology will be applied to various human-computer communication or telecommunication systems, e.g. information inquiry, reservation and ordering, and reading emails. The student will learn many skills in speech processing, audio processing, as well as some software development.
Requirements:
1 good at c++ coding
2 good knowledge on machine learning and pattern recognition
3 good team-working and communication skill
4 good at learning
5 some experiences on text, speech and audio signal processing
6 6+ months full-time internship with supervisor’s permission
Position 2:

Roles & Responsibilities
Speaker segmentation and clustering for speech recognition
Objective: Advance state-of-the-art speaker segmentation/clustering technologies for diarization and speaker-adaptative recognition and implement algorithms under application context and constraints
Requirements:
1. strong background on audio signal processing and speech analysis
2. strong experience on machine learning and pattern recognition
3. good coding skills in C++
4. good team work and responsible to supervision
Position 3:
Quantity: 1
Phone-call transcription agent
Objective: Implementation of a speech-recognition based phone-call transcription software agent
Requirements:
1. good coding skills in C#/.Net, experience with Win32, COM, or HPC a plus.
2. ability to quickly learn new APIs
3. good team work and responsible to supervision
