A brief description of the position is as following:

The objective is to produce algorithms for a set of scenarios involving various access technologies taking into account the key network parameters and the key problems identified in SON, e.g., Flexible Spectrum Usage, Spectrum Sharing, self-healing, etc. It will take into account the evaluation of the impact of the algorithms on the network behavior and in particular the impact on PHY and MAC layers. Evaluation based on a platform could be the first step.

Approach and expected results:


1. The PhD project will initially focus around Self-organisation (SON)  and need for flexible and well managed use of the available radio spectrum in a complex multi-system, multi-user, multimedia environment.

2.Investigate the current state-of-the-art and potentially to utilise the results of empirical work, and from this propose and evaluate new time-efficient methods and guidelines for standardised, rapid identification of key element within SON technology.

3. Tracking the relevant technical discussion of 3GPP, develop deep insight on SON and esp. practical usage of SON for real network circumstances, allowing  the network to detect changes, make intelligent decisions based upon these inputs, and then implement the appropriate action. The systems must be location and situation-aware, and must take advantage of this information to dynamically configure themselves in a distributed fashion.

4. The candidate will be potential working in parallel with other research projects participants in and will thus both augment and benefit from these.

5. Good Knowledge of LTE and LTE-A system is necessary

6. Working language: English, mainly for research and report, therefore good command of English is a preferred.

8. Good commend of C++ is a plus.

Qualification requirements:

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, Orange Labs will make a decision.
