当一个人的所作所为违反了这个社会所认同的公义，道德以至法律，他必然能认识到自己的行为无法负责地袒露在阳光之下，除非他患有无法对自己行为负责的精神疾病。这样的人或许是误入歧途而深陷，如第一季中的Danny Hale；或许迫于外界的环境压力，如Mahone。还有些人，他们既不认为自己走了一条错误的路，也不觉得自己是被迫的，他们自主，自发，或者自愿地行走在一条钢索之上，T-bag如是，Paul Kellerman亦如是。他们都有着支撑自己不至于坠的信念。

如果说支撑着T-bag的是他对世界的摈弃，对Susan的渴望，那么支撑着Kellerman的又会是什么。从Terrence Steadman的话中，或许能够得到一丝线索，“He proposed to her”。我们不知道Kellerman是否仍有有家人，我们只看到他从school boy时代起，在他生命里最重要的一个人，Caroline。

二十多年前，还是个高中生的Kellerman向Caroline求婚，想必被Caroline拒绝了，她并且和自己的兄弟Terrence一起笑话了可怜的Paul。随后我们得知，Kellerman进入了西点军校，以近乎完美的成绩毕业，并立即去了科威特服役，在第一次海湾战争中战绩出色而得以晋升为Captain，没有人怀疑他将在军队中步步高升。可是命运之手又将他拉了回来，政府看中了他优秀的能力，在特勤部门为他安排了一个主管职位，专门给副总统服务。这时的副总统不是别人，正是当年的Caroline。这究竟是命运女神的微笑，还是诅咒？

不管是冥冥之中的天定，还是Caroline的安排，Kellerman回到了自己初恋情人的身边，并从此长年累月忠心耿耿地履行自己的职责，为了Caroline爬到权力的顶端而不遗余力，不惜自己的双手沾满了无辜人的鲜血，没有一丝犹豫。然后，Kim的出现改变了这一切，像一堵墙隔断了他和Caroline的联系。他感到了沮丧、气恼、冷漠，却仍然努力想证明自己，回到Caroline的身边，哪怕知道Caroline不可能会接受他的爱意。他要的只不过是能像从前那样，直接向Caroline报告，陪在她身边，而不是被放逐。

这样的路，注定不好走。当意识到自己被彻底地边缘化，并且很可能作为一个替死鬼，他终于不得不做出改变。我想是因为他不愿意自己向往的生活被毁灭，Kellerman选择了和逃亡中的两兄弟走在一起。于是我们重新看到了一个有魄力、精明强干的Kellerman，毫不留情地对Kim进行一下又一下的还击。我们不知道他这么做究竟想得到些什么，坚强如斯的人，其多年的信念是否就此被颠覆，还是依然埋藏在心底深处。

进退无路时，索性放手一搏，这样才是男儿本色。只是不知在Kellerman的内心，是否想过覆水难收。无论是洗脱自己一路走来，留下的种种罪恶，还是挽回冷酷的Caroline对自己的放弃，都将是against all odds。我们对Kellerman唯一的期盼，不过是既然是个坏人，那就坏到彻底，坏得堂堂正正，坏出自己独有的精彩吧，It's the only chance you gotta take！
