GROUP A
Leaders Olympiacos CFP need only a point at Liverpool FC to go through, while
the English side must win. If Liverpool prevail by a one-goal margin other
than 1-0, however, they must hope AS Monaco FC do not beat eliminated RC
Deportivo La Coru?a; in this case they would lose out to Olympiacos on their
head-to-head record. If Monaco win they progress, while if they lose or draw
they will go through if Liverpool do not win. Should Monaco draw and
Liverpool win, the English side are through and so are Olympiacos, unless
they lose by a margin of three or more in which case Monaco will advance.
Deportivo will finish last whatever happens, with the third-placed side
entering the UEFA Cup.
GROUP B
Only one issue is settled: AS Roma will end in fourth. Dynamo are two points
clear of Real Madrid CF and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and the Ukrainians can
qualify with a point in Germany. Madrid will be through if they win in Rome,
but should they draw they must hope Leverkusen lose against Dynamo, otherwise
the Spaniards will instead enter the UEFA Cup. A Roma win would ensure
Leverkusen and Dynamo both progress.
GROUP C
Juventus and Bayern will claim the top two places in that order. AFC Ajax
will finish third ahead of Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC as long as they do as well
against Bayern as the Israeli club do against Juventus.
GROUP D
United and Lyon are through. Lyon will finish top only if they beat bottom
side AC Sparta Praha and United fail to win at Fenerbah?e SK, who are
confirmed UEFA Cup entrants.
GROUP E
PSV have ensured progress past this stage for the first time in nine
attempts, and require just a draw at Panathinaikos FC to finish top. Arsenal
FC are second, a point above Panathinaikos, and a home win against Rosenborg
BK will see them through - and into first place if PSV lose. Panathinaikos
must defeat PSV and hope Arsenal fail to win, with the lower-placed of the
English and Greek title-holders entering the UEFA Cup. Rosenborg will finish
fourth.
GROUP F
Milan and Barcelona have advanced, with the Italian champions two points
ahead. Milan can only be denied first place if they lose at Celtic FC and
Barcelona defeat bottom side FC Shakhtar Donestk. Shakhtar must gain more
points at home to Barcelona than Celtic do against Milan to pip the Scottish
champions to the UEFA Cup.
GROUP G
Which club joins Inter in qualifying will be decided in Spain, where Valencia
CF must defeat Werder Bremen either 1-0 or by a two-goal margin to go through
instead of the German champions. Whoever does not succeed at the Mestalla
will go into the UEFA Cup - which Valencia won last season - with RSC
Anderlecht unable to rise from fourth place.
GROUP H
Chelsea will finish first. Paris Saint-Germain FC lie second and will advance
with a home win against PFC CSKA Mosvka. Otherwise, holders FC Porto can
progress with a win against visitors Chelsea. If Porto draw or lose, CSKA
will advance with a win while PSG would require just a draw. Should Porto not
better PSG's result they will enter the UEFA Cup, otherwise the French team
will end up third, except if Porto and CSKA win, in which case the Russian
side will enter that tournament.
