Prem: Worst Eleven Of The Week
2/8/2005 2:11:00 PM
Who in the Premiership had a weekend theya?d prefer to forget? Goal.com
correspondent Jamie Obertelli selects a team of players who probably know
they should have done bettera|
1 Russell Hoult (West Brom): The keepera?s error lead to Norwicha?s first
goal and started their fight back. The West Brom stopper did not look
comfortable when called upon when a commanding performance was vital to his
sides chances of success.
2 Stephen Carr (Newcastle): The Republic of Ireland international has been
woefully inconsistent for Newcastle since arriving from Tottenham this
season. Against Charlton the right back looked off the pace offering little
offensively whilst unconvincing in when his side were on the back foot.
3 Liam Ridgewell (Aston Villa): The youngster will have better days than
this. Villa fans cannot blame Ridgewell who is still only a young prospect
and cannot be criticised for struggling against a side like Arsenal. Whilst
the youngster looks promising Villa need reinforcements to take the pressure
off their younger players.
4 Andy Oa?Brien (Newcastle): The sooner new signing Boomsong returns from
injury the better for Newcastle. Oa?Brien looks to have lost all his
confidence and is no longer convincing at the back.
5 J Lloyd Samuel (Aston Villa): The young left back has had an exceptional
season and has been looked at by the England manager on various occasions.
Against Arsenal the former Charlton man could do little to stop a ruthless
Arsenal side rip Villaa?s defence to shreds.
6 Stelios (Bolton): Poor. The Greek international offered very little to
Bolton going forward. This was definitely a game to be forgotten for Stelios
as fans could be forgiven for forgetting he was on the pitch.
7 Eric Djemba-Djemba (Aston Villa): Villaa?s only buy during the January
window, the Cameroonian international can be forgiven for finding it hard in
his first game for the club. The fact that it was against Arsenal meant that
he had little chance to find is stride.
8 Lee Bowyer (Newcastle): Just as it seemed that the tenacious player that
starred for Leeds was on the way back, Bowyer went missing again. The
midfieldera?s form has been patch this season and Bowyer was guilty of
letting the game pass him by once again.
9 Wayne Routledge (Crystal Palace): Do Tottenham really want to sign him?
After this performance the North Londoners may be tempted to look elsewhere.
Routledge was off the pace and again seemed uninterested in playing for the
club that gave him his chance in professional football.
10 Louis Saha (Man United): The Frenchman is only just returning to action
after injury setbacks this season. Saha will need time to recapture the form
that earned him a move to United in the first place.
11 Shaun Bartlett (Charlton): The Charlton front man had little impact on the
game and was unable to trouble the Newcastle defence.
