Coupet joins Lyon casualty list
Thursday, 4 November 2004
Olympique Lyonnais fear goalkeeper Grégory Coupet could be out for some time
after he picked up a knee injury against Fenerbah?e SK last night.
Ligament damage
The French international was hurt in the 65th minute of the 4-2 victory,
following a collision with midfield player Tuncay Sanli, and had to be
replaced seven minutes later by Nicolas Puydebois. According to Lyon, Coupet
suffered "a bruise on the right knee and likely ligament damage" although he
is due to have more tests today.
Casualties mounting
The French champions are expecting Coupet to miss several games, although
they have at least assured their progression from the UEFA Champions League
group stage with two Group D matches to play. The club, currently leading
Ligue 1, have had a difficult time with injuries lately, having lost defender
Claudio Ca?apa (knee) until the new year and striker Sylvain Wiltord
(hamstring) for up to a month.
