Unlucky O'Brien suffers setback
Monday, 8 November 2004
AFC Ajax's American defender John O'Brien has suffered another injury setback
after hurting his hamstring in his comeback match yesterday.
Stretched hamstring
O'Brien, who was making his first start since February, stretched his
hamstring during Ajax's 3-1 win at Willem II and faces between four and six
weeks out. Having not played in the UEFA Champions League this term, it seems
certain he will miss the rest of the tournament's group stage which concludes
in early December.
Little football
The 27-year-old has played little football in the past two seasons, during
which time he sustained a nasty achilles injury. Indeed, since arriving in
Amsterdam from FC Utrecht in the summer of 1999, O'Brien has made just 65
league appearances.
