While at French club Lens, Foe was a transfer target for Manchester United before he unfortunately broke his leg which also forced him to miss the World Cup in France, where he would have represented Cameroon.
Despite his giant physical presence and large fee, Foe walked into Upton Park relatively unnoticed as manager Harry Redknapp was also announcing the signing of flambouyant and controversial Italian star Paulo Di Canio.
Foe did not settle in at West Ham and was on the verge of a move to Liverpool in 1999, which fell through. A year later, he was on his way back to France in May 2000, in the deal that took Frederic Kanoute to West Ham.
Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan brought Foe back to the Premiership in the summer of 2002.
The deal cost the club an initial £555,000 which could go up if they choose to take up the option of making the deal permanent at the end of the season. Foe represented Cameroon in the 2002 World Cup in Japan/South Korea, and played in all three group
games before they were knocked out.
He played his part in a successful season for City as they secured their Barclaycard Premiership status, and was especially impressive over Christmas when he scored six goals in as many games. However, City could not agree terms with Lyon to make his
deal permanent, so it looks like he has played his last game for them.
