The lab of Dr. Jianrong Wang in the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE) at Michigan State University (MSU) is looking for highly competent and self-motivated graduate students (Ph.D.) to join his lab. Multiple positions are available.
Positions for computational biology postdocs are also available.
Research in Dr. Wang’s lab is in the intersection of machine learning, statistical modeling, bioinformatics and computational biology, with a focus on building novel Bayesian models and efficient learning algorithms to construct large-scale regulatory networks and to decode the genetic basis of human diseases, based on big-data from genomics.
The research will engage in both new methodology development and big-data implementation. The projects will involve inter-disciplinary collaborations with experts in statistics, mathematics, computer science, cancer biology, molecular genetics, and pharmacology. The computational predictions will be experimentally tested to boost the scientific impacts. Recent lab members (PhD student and postdoc) have got both tenure-track faculty jobs and industry jobs (Facebook). Detailed information of Dr. Wang and his research can be found:
https://cmse.msu.edu/directory/faculty/jianrong-wang The candidates are expected to be highly self-motivated and have a strong passion for scientific research. Students with excellent mathematics, statistics or computer science backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Strong programming skills (e.g. Python or R) are expected. Knowledge in computational biology and bioinformatics is a plus but not required.
