The Boost Mobile Elite 24 at Rucker Park is being advertised as a game of the best 24 high school players in the country "regardless of class or sneaker affiliation." With the game being played at legendary Rucker Park in New York City, this game will be sure to have plenty of buzz and star-power to it. The "Goat" Squad, which is made up of east coast players will be coached by current Chicago Bulls star Ben Gordon. Gordon is a Mount Vernon, NY native, which is about 10 miles from Rucker Park.
This team will be made up of high school teammates OJ Mayo and Bill Walker out of Ohio. Mayo's college decision is down to USC and Kansas State while teammate Bill Walker is in the middle of a controversy over his eligibility for this coming high school season. It is also unclear whether Mayo will return to North College Hill for his senior season or transfer back to his hometown high school of Huntington in West Virginia.
Mayo and Walker will be joined by two Villanova recruits and New Jersey high-schoolers in PG Corey Fisher and SG Corey Stokes. Fisher, who goes to school in Elizabeth, NJ but resides in the Bronx is an ultra quick guard with a great handle and ability to get into the lane while Stokes has an improving outside shot and an already developed body. Both players will be a welcoming presence in Jay Wright's guard oriented system at Villanova. The big men, which will be complimenting these guards, will be UCLA's new commit in Kevin Love and another highly rated big man in JJ Hickson. Other players for the East squad are Michigan State-commit Chris Allen, top-rated 2008 PG Brandon Jennings out of Lakewood California, now playing for perennial powerhouse Oak Hill Academy, Rick Jackson out of the Philadelphia area and 2008 big man Samardo Samuels.
The team opposing the "Goat" Squad will be the "Skip to my Lou" squad named after playground legend Rafer Alston. New Jersey Nets guard and California-native Jason Kidd will coach the "Goat" squad. This team is comprised of stars such as the 6'9" versatile forward Michael Beasley who committed the Kansas State over the past AAU season. Herb Pope, who has Kansas State in his list of college choices as well, joins Beasley. Beasley and Pope are joined by 6'3" combo guard Jerryd Bayless, who recently reaffirmed his commitment to Arizona after earlier backing out of his verbal. Joining this team of players will be Kansas-commit Cole Aldrich, the ultra-quick Syracuse prospect Jonny Flynn, top rated 2008 SG Tyreke Evans and more. Lance Stephenson, a New York City native and the only Class of 2009 player on either roster will also be playing. Stephenson is rumored to be leaving Lincoln High School, which is where Sebastian Telfair and Stephon Marbury attended high school.
While this event has plenty of star-power, college coaches will not be permitted to watch this event because it is a "dead" period, meaning coaches cannot come to recruits' games and cannot initiate contact with recruits. Check back as NBADraft.net will be there with a full recap of the event, plus an analysis of the prospects.
