Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) provides Enterprise organizations with a consistent, upstream compatible, Kubernetes substrate across SDDC, Public Cloud, and Edge environments that is ready for end-user workloads and ecosystem integrations. TKG builds on trusted open source and community projects and delivers an engineered and supported Kubernetes platform for end users and partners. TKG telco and networking team is seeking a software engineer to help us advance our mission of making TKG the best platform for the Telecommunications area.
What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
As an engineer you will join a team of highly motivated engineers and deliver new innovations in a highly differentiated container management control plane. You are part of the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid development team, responsible for enabling Telco features for the TKG product which includes DPDK, SR-IOV, IPv6 and Numa related features. The engineer could also work with the team to solve challenging problems on TKG critical production capabilities such as container networking, load balancing, cross-cluster connectivity, as well as high availability and rolling upgrade.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months, you will work toward completing?
As a senior engineer, we expect you:
o Enjoy researching and developing cutting edge cloud-native software
o Develop a production level good quality Tanzu Kubernetes Grid telco features on vSphere, AWS, Azure and GCP
o Ability to discuss and provide architectural and technical opinions to the TKG product
o Participate in the open source community and thrive in technically leading initiatives
o Good understanding on container networking, load balancing, high availability and even IPv6
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments or requirements will you be performing on a regular basis?
As a member of TKG telco and networking team, you will
o Design and implement new features to better run and customize Kubernetes for telco workloads
o Solve the challenging problems in order to run telco features such as SR-IOV, Numa and IPv6 on Kubernetes
o Improve TKG overall reliability, scalability and ease of use
o Work with Global Support and Service team to support field POC and customer cases
o Improve stability and test coverage of TKG networking CI/CD pipelines
What is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Yang Yu, MAPBU R&D Engineering Manager, VMware. Yang has worked for VMware almost 7 years. Prior to VMware, Yang was a software engineer for IBM. Yang currently leads the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Integrated Edition (TKGI) product which consists of more than 20 engineers.
