Systems Biology Postdoc Position Available

A postdoctoral position ($35,000 - $40,000 per year plus fringe benefit) is immediately available in the area of systems biology at Department of Chemical Engineering, Auburn University. This position is for one year and can be extended to the second year depending on the funding situation.

In this project, we seek to understand the interaction between complex systems by examining how two model microbes interact with each other in bio-fuel fermentation process. We plan to study the architecture and modularity of the metabolic network for synthesis of ethanol from glucose and xylose in two microbes. We will also investigate how the transcriptional or gene regulatory layer of control is integrated into the metabolic network to create a robust architecture.

The ideal candidate would have research experience involving molecular biology of microbes used in biofuels fermentation, especially with DNA/RNA assays and/or metabolic flux measurements, with sufficient background in mathematical modeling of biological systems to interact with systems engineers. Postdoctoral associates in our group are expected to work independently and provide leadership for more junior investigators.
