Postdoctoral Research Associate Opportunity in the
Division of Engineering at Brown University

A position is available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the
Division of Engineering at Brown University. The successful candidate will
work on projects involving the application of particulate electrodes in
spouted beds as cathodes for the removal of mixtures of metals from aqueous
solutions and wastewater, and the electrosorption/desorption of metallic
compounds from various solid adsorbents in related systems in an electric
field. The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. in chemical or mechanical
engineering, or chemistry, with a background in electrochemistry, the
surface chemistry of adsorbents, particularly activated carbons, zeolites,
and ion exchange resins, and the fluid mechanics of fluid-particulate
systems. Experience with Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and the
characterization of porous solids would also be useful. Well-qualified
individuals with expertise in one or more of these areas will be
considered. The work is primarily experimental, although there might also
be some opportunity for CFM modeling.

The initial appointment is for one year, with an opportunity for an
additional year or two, contingent upon performance.
