Icardi: ‘Third place minimum’
By Football Italia staff
Mauro Icardi says ‘third place is Inter’s minimum objective’ and that the new side has ‘drawn a line over the past.’
The Nerazzurri are top of Serie A after picking up wins in all five of their opening matches, and last season’s capocannoniere is positive about the club’s future.
“We wanted to start strongly, but maybe didn’t think this strongly,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Juventus? No one expected the Bianconeri to be in the bottom half of the table.
“For now our minds are on Fiorentina , then we’ll see what happens at the Marassi. For now we have to climb as high as possible.
"We’re only at the beginning, but I feel relaxed in first place. Third place is the minimum objective for a club that has made major investments.
“Inter can’t have another season without Europe. With 10 new players, there has been a revolution that made us very strong.
“We have drawn a line over the past and worked to create a great group. In time you will realise. We can only get better."
