Thohir: ‘Inter aiming for third’
By Football Italia staff
President Erick Thohir insists Inter’s goal is still third-place, and discusses the prospect of Jose Mourinho returning.
The Nerazzurri are joint-top of Serie A following last Saturday’s win over Roma, but the patron is not getting carried away.
“The result against Roma was great,” Thohir told Rai.
“It was a tough match, and it was important to win, which we did. We’re still aiming for third-place, which is our main objective.
“I don’t agree with those who say we’re playing badly, we’re a consistent team. We’re top of the League at this early stage of the season and I’m very happy.
“We have an important project with [Coach] Roberto Mancini, I hope he’ll be with us for many years.
“He’s a great Coach, and we have a great project, so there’s an agreement that will last another two or three years.
“We want to support him, in the January transfer market too if there’s a requirement. That said, against Roma some players played who have had less space and they did well.
“The transfer market is the transfer market, we’ll see.”
Thohir was also asked about Jose Mourinho, who took the Beneamata to the treble in 2010, and is under-pressure at Chelsea after a poor start to the season.
“He’s a great Coach, he made history at Inter. But we have Roberto Mancini, who is [also] a great Coach.
“I know Mourinho is always talking about his love for Inter, but we believe in the project with Mancini, and we’re continuing on this path.
“Of course, Mourinho has said that he won’t be at Chelsea forever, and Mancini has said much the same thing, he won’t be here for 10 or 15 years.
“For now we go forward with Mancini.”
