PlaNet Finance China – Technical Assistance Translation Intern (Spring 2012)
PlaNet Finance China (PFC) is one of the earliest international players in China to provide microfinance advisory to Chinese microfinance organizations, banks, and policymakers. It is widely recognized within the Chinese microfinance industry as providing a key catalyst role in the development of the Chinese microfinance market, which has recently entered a key growth stage thanks to regulatory and policy support to expand financing to the private sector and the bottom-of-the-pyramid, as well as increasing recognition amongst Chinese financial players on the potential market opportunity amongst micro, small, and medium sized enterprises. http://www/planetfinancechina.org.PFC is looking for a translation intern to work in the Beijing office. As an intern, you will assist the Technical Assistance Team on translating and creating project material. Below are some specific tasks you are likely to work on.
1. Translate various documents, including proposals, reports or news articles (both CH à EN and EN à CH). This will dominate 60% of the work for this internship.
2. Write features for the newly launched microfinance risk management blog on a variety of topics including project update, interview and industry trends. You will also learn basic skills in website management and html.
3. Research Chinese microfinance news and stay current on global microfinance trends
4. Provide administrative support as needed, such as workshop organization.
Qualifications:
1. The intern should be highly responsible, motivated, and confident in his/her abilities.
2. Native speaker of Chinese with advanced skills in English
3. Past experience in high-quality translations
4. Interest in microfinance, China’s development and poverty alleviation a plus
5. Available to commit a minimum of 3 months (preferably mid-March to mid-June), 3-5 days a week
6. Excellent organizational, communication, writing, proofreading and research skills
7. Ability to multi-task
8. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Internship Details:
1. The intern should be able to work part-time in the PFC office at least 3 days/week.
2. A modest transportation/lunch stipend is available for days worked in the office
3. PFC is willing to provide interns who complete their internships on good standing with recommendation letters and a certification of internship
This internship will provide you with significant amount of experience in translation formal documents and media content and help build up your communication and project management skills. It also offers a great opportunity to learn about microfinance in China from both domestic and international experts, and see firsthand how an international nonprofit operates.
