Position: Intern
Post title: Intern for Communication and Information Sector (CI), UNESCO Beijing
Duration: 6 months (effective 1 June 2013)
Location: Beijing, China
Profile:
- You must already completed a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and be completing at least a Master’s at the time of application. Should your studies not be divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, you must have already completed at least 3 year of full time studies at a University or equivalent institution and be in your 4th year of full time studies towards a same diploma;
- Fluency in English and Chinese (oral and written);
- Public Information, Public Relations, Media or any other related major;
- Applicants familiar with e-communication, social networking, Mobile & Tablet Apps will have an advantage;
- Good communication skills, including writing skills;
- Strong strategic, analytical skills;
- Good computer and IT skills and experience in using office software packages;
- An awareness of the many facets of a multicultural world and a commitment to international public service are essential.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the programme specialist, the specific duties and responsibilities of the intern will include, but may not be limited to:
- Conduct research on media policy and media development, journalism education, public information, ICT development and other relevant issue areas;
- Support management of projects focused on ICT for education, culture and science;
- Assist in upgrading, updating and maintaining the UNESCO Beijing website and updating UNESCO Beijing’s Weibo account;
- Translate from Chinese to English and vice-versa;
- Take on additional responsibilities as required.

- The aim of the internship is to give you professional experience in an international organization which relates to and supplements your studies;
- An internship affords you the opportunity to work in a multicultural, intergovernmental organization;
- UNESCO does not remunerate or pay interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, and accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions;
- As the internship programme is not connected with the recruitment process, the grating of an internship should not be interpreted in any way as a preliminary step towards employment at the Secretariat.
