Fall 2013 Internships 
Natural Resources Defense Council, Beijing Office
NRDC is a leading non-profit, non-governmental environmental organization.

members and online activists to protect the planet and ensure a safe and 
healthy environment for all living things. NRDC’s staff of more than 350 
lawyers, scientists and policy experts work out of offices in New York, 
Washington, Beijing, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. In China, NRDC 
has collaborated with government agencies, research institutes, and civil 
society organizations for over a decade to help strengthen and expand energy 
efficiency, green building standards, clean energy technology development, 
and environmental law and governance.

Position Summary: 
The Natural Resources Defense Council’s China Program is seeking interns 
for its Beijing Office, who are energetic, environmentally conscious, 
intelligent, and self-confident graduate or college students with an 
interest in improving China’s environment. The interns will work within a 
specific project area and will learn how policy research and advocacy is 
carried out by a leading non-profit environmental organization. Interns will 
provide assistance in research and analysis of policies, drafting and 
editing of written materials, and implementation of project activities. 
Interns will have the opportunity to participate in internal and external 
meetings and discussions as appropriate. 
Internships typically last 10 to 12 weeks, with fall internships taking 
place between August and December. NRDC is not able to provide financial 
compensation for the internships.
Available Project Areas:
-    Sustainable Cities, including Green Buildings and Urban Smart 
Growth;
-    Power Sector Energy Efficiency/Demand Side Management;
-    Climate and Energy, e.g. renewables, coal, and shale gas;
-    Nuclear power safety;
-    Responsible Sourcing Initiative;
-    Environmental protection and environmental health, e.g. low-sulfur 
diesel, marine fishery protection, and heavy metal pollution;
-    Communication.
Qualifications: 
-    Graduate student, college student, or recent graduate.
-    Proficiency in Chinese and English, with strong oral and written 
communication skills.
-    Preferred majors include, but are not limited to: environmental law 
and policy, energy and environmental studies, science and engineering, urban 
planning, building engineering, business, international relations, and 
communications.
