Government Affairs Intern Job description
Position Overview:
An Internship position is available at the European Chamber’s
Beijing Office, assisting on activities for the following Working
Groups: Energy, Renewable Energy, Smart Grid, Carbon Market,
Water, and Construction. The position would also involve work
related to China’s Urbanisation developments. A proven interest in
China’s Energy and Environmental policy developments is considered
highly desirable and advantageous for potential candidates.
This position will report to the Working Group Coordinator, and
assist the Head of Government Affairs and Government Relations
Coordinator.
Key responsibilities including monitoring the industrial and trade
developments in China and the EU; responding to inquiries on
Chinese laws, regulations and policies, and supporting the
activities of the government relations department and the Working
Groups. The position also involves supporting the supervisors with
the coordination and organization of Working Group meetings as
well as with the drafting of the European Business in China
Position Paper;
Specific duties include:
1. Analysing and compiling Calls for Comments on legislation
drafts
2. Compiling and disseminating daily government updates
3. Regulatory and market research
4. Writing meeting minutes and general reports
5. English-Chinese translation, occasional oral translations
6. Compiling Working Group newsletters
7. Tracking lobby activities
8. Arranging meetings
The internship presents an opportunity to gain valuable experience
within the areas that the Chamber is involved in, including
lobbying, events and organizing WG meetings with European
industry.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
1. Advanced written and spoken English;
2. Excellent interpersonal skills (strong sense of responsibility,
details-oriented and communication skills etc.) with self-
motivation to learn and achieve from an internship;
3. Basic understanding of the Chinese government structure and
legislation process;
4. Industry knowledge, strong personal interest and/or previous
experience in trade policy lobbying are a key asset.
This internship runs for 6 months. Eligible candidates must be
enrolled in a bachelor or postgraduate program and willing to work
from the office for at least 4 days per week. Students with a 6
month working semester are strongly encouraged to apply. Please

Please note that interns do not receive any stipend for the first
3 months of the internship. They will however receive a stipend of
2,000RMB per month from the 4th month of the internship onwards.
Upon successful completion of the internship, a letter of
recommendation signed by the Chamber Secretary General will be
provided as a reference.
