MTS Intern – Third Platform
Beijing, China

VMware’s Third Platform R&D team is responsible for building innovative infrastructure and management offerings to support very large scale of workloads and application level resource management frameworks, including but not limited to Big Data/Hadoop/HBase, Cloud Foundry, HPC, containers/Docker, Kubernetes/Mesos, social networks and mobile services, on VMware’s platform. VMware enables customers to deploy and use these kinds of applications easily and efficiently on their virtual infrastructure and on/off primer cloud environment. By leveraging vSphere, customers can deploy large scale clusters in minutes, while improving availability of the whole clusters.

Our Third Platform projects now include: vSphere Big Data Extensions (formerly Project Serengeti) and VMware Integrated OpenStack and a few others not published yet. vSphere BDE simplifies the deployment and operations of virtualized Hadoop, VIO provides full support for Open APIs with OpenStack.

Job Responsibilities

You will join the design and development of new features and enhancements to one or more of our projects. You are expected to have strong coding skills and solid understanding of computer architecture. Deep understanding of virtualization mechanism, distributed system stack such as OpenStack, large scale workloads like Hadoop/Hbase, container technology like Docker/Kubernetes, and resource management tool like Mesos etc will be a big plus. You will incorporate the requirements of VMware’s customers to improve our products for large enterprise environment. You are expected to commit and grow a lot on technology and profession working in a disruptive company like VMware.

Requirements

* Major in CS/EE or equivalent in TOP universities
* 2nd year and above of Master or PhD program
* In average work for 4 days per week at least 4 months
* Very strong development experience in Java, Python or Ruby on Linux or hypervisors (ESXi/KVM/Xen).
* Solid knowledge on computer architecture and system level programming.
* Experience developing large-scale system software is a big plus.
* Knowledge of distributed computing and parallel programming. Experience with OpenStack/CloudStack, Docker/Kubernetes/Mesos, Hadoop/HBase or CoreOS is another big plus.
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Good teamwork spirit.
