Make an Impact - Build Tools for Crazy-ass 3D stuff without too much hassle!
We at Autodesk Research are a group of collaborative researchers and developer
s dedicated to innovation and discovery in design, visualization, simulation,
engineering and turning conceptual ideas into new technologies to solve comple
x real-world problems.
The Design & Fabrication group explores new ways to create objects in both the
virtual and physical domains. Generally taking the form of prototype interact
ive systems, our research incorporates aspects of computer graphics, human-com
puter interaction, interactive systems, and other related domains. Our goal is
to create novel design interfaces which are immediately accessible to a novic
e while still scaling up to the demands of a professional. We focus on practic
al tools and evaluate our work by putting our software in the hands of real us
ers.
As part of the Interactive Design Tools project, MeshMixer is a prototype desi
gn tool based on high-resolution dynamic triangle meshes. We are exploring the
new capabilities of this surface representation for interactive design and fa
brication, in the context of a practical system we release to the public. For
more information about the project, visit the MeshMixer website.
Key Responsibilities
As a research engineer intern, you will work closely with other researchers an
d/or engineers on emerging technologies in a dynamic team environment. The key
to being successful in this role is the ability and passion to learn and solv
e problems while staying focused and aggressive on the goals. You daily activi
ties will include:
Extensive directed/self-motivated learning and research activities to underst
and the current project framework and future architecture to meet our goals.
Communicate with other researchers and engineers within the same team constan
tly for elaborations and discussions how to design and implement specific task
s within the project.
Research on scientific papers and/or journals for finding and understanding innovative algorithms.
Independently as well as collaboratively implement the designs. You will also
be responsible for the quality and testing of your implementations.
Report research findings constantly. You will also need to do an official weekly report to the management on the progress.
Who's a Fit
Currently enrolled full-time student in an accredited university or research
institution actively pursuing a Masters or Ph.D. degree.
Be able to work at our Shanghai office 3 to 5 days a week for at least 6 months.
Strong knowledge and experience of C/C++. Experience with MATLAB is a plus.
Solid knowledge and experience in data structures and algorithms and be able
to apply them to solving problems.
Understandings of computer graphics and mesh processing.
Strong research capability, analytic skills and good English reading and writ
ing skills;
Be able to work under directions and adhere to team goals. Be able to work in-dependently on assigned learning and research tasks.
