Akuna Capital is a derivative trading firm headquartered in downtown Chicago t
hat specializes in market making and arbitrage. Akuna started with five emplo
yees in 2011 and we now have over 150. In 2014 we grew by 84%, opening our fir
st international office in Shanghai. We compete directly with the largest mark
et making and arbitrage firms in the world. We develop our own software strate
gies, algorithms, and models. We also have floor traders so we are not entirel
y an electronic firm. We have no clients and trade only using the firm’s own
money from its partners. We use cutting-edge technology to build our low laten
cy platform. Unlike other firms, we do not have legacy code and are therefore
able to implement new strategies to be more agile in the creation of our tradi

e think it is in line to be one of the best in the trading space. Junior emplo
yees are quickly given responsibilities, actively working alongside our senior

o We are seeking Junior Web Developers to join our innovative and growin
g technology team at Akuna.
o In this role you will work alongside our trading and software teams to
design and build real-time data visualization tools to directly aid traders i
n assessing risk and managing other components in our system. The Web Develop
ment team creates and maintains a suite of web applications.
o All of these web applications are based on Tornado, the asynchronous w
eb framework for Python.
o We use websockets to create live-updating displays built with React to
ensure traders have access to the most up-to-date information as quickly as p
ossible.
o We also work with other teams at Akuna Capital to design infrastructur
e and tools that help monitor the health of our systems.
What you’ll do as a Junior Web Developer:
o Junior Developers at Akuna have the opportunity to use cutting-edge te
chnology while working on high performance/low latency systems.

What would make you a top-notch candidate?
o Pursuing a BS/MS/ PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Physics
or related field
o Experience with Python and JavaScript
o Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
o Good English communication skill
o Create an easily understood and testable codebase that can change as q
uickly as market conditions require
o Passion for innovation and building systems from the ground up
o Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment
