CDP is a global not-for-profit organization, founded in 2000 with headquarters in London and offices located in 11 other countries. We have pioneered and provide the world’s only global natural capital disclosure system.
Measurement, transparency and accountability drive positive change in the world of business and investment. On behalf of investors, purchasers and governments, CDP requests environmental information from companies and cities on the impacts and dependencies they have on the world’s natural resources and their strategies for managing these.
So far, CDP has partnered with 658 investors representing US$87 trillion in assets and more than 115 multinational companies. Through the power of investors and buyers, CDP incentivizes companies to disclose and manage their impact on the environment. At the same time, CDP actively engages in dialogue and cooperation with stakeholders such as governments, enterprises, and NGOs all over the world. Based on models and data as well as practical cases, CDP uses market means to propose comprehensive solutions for environmental improvement.
With its professional methodologies and disclosure processes, CDP has created a world-leading environmental information indicator system that is designed to drive businesses and cities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and prevent the destruction of forests. Our unique model has enabled us to remain entirely independent and transparent in all our practices, creating an international brand that generates high levels of confidence and trust. In 2017, more than 6,300 companies representing 55% of global capital market, more than 500 cities and more than 100 states and regions disclosed their environmental data through CDP, making CDP the largest and most comprehensive collection globally of primary corporate climate change, water and forest-risk information.
CDP officially entered China in 2012 and is committed to providing a unified reporting platform for Chinese companies to promote the development of green finance and low-carbon supply chain management in China and identify companies that excel in environmental protection. Together with world’s leading companies in tackling climate change, we conduct scientific benchmarking in overall performance and are therefore recognized and welcomed by Chinese companies. In 2017, the response rate of invited companies reached 80%, ranking second in the world. At the same time, CDP actively cooperates with governments, financial institutions, academic institutions and other stakeholders in China. As a special member of China Green Finance Committee, CDP supports and participates in the research of important topics such as environmental information disclosure, responsible investment and risk analysis tools of listed companies. Previously, CDP’s experts supported the completion of the Green Procurement Guidelines, in which carbon market monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) and other indicators have been approved by the relevant ministries. CDP highly agrees with the General Secretary's development philosophy of “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.” and looks forward to sharing more international experience and integrating more local practices while working with partners to contribute to the development of China's green finance and eco-civilization.
