Background
In 2004 as Symantec continued to grow in size, it was realized that developi
ng whole new product areas to grow the company's revenues was becoming more
and more difficult. Although acquisitions had enabled quick growth, it was f
elt that a well balanced company should also be able to develop new products
internally. However the larger size brought with it more process. When a gl
obal company releases a new product it must do so globally which in turn nec
essitates a lot of expensive process — Localization, Sales and Channel Supp
ort etc. All this makes the justification for entering a new market all the
more difficult. A new approach was needed.
Basic Charter
Advanced Concepts was established with a charter to mimic the operational ch
aracteristics of a startup by looking for promising new product ideas, build
ing V1.0 products and test marketing them in real world conditions (in produ
ction environments). Products that showed promise are transferred into one o
f the Symantec Business Units and those that don't are killed but in the kno
wledge that not a whole lot of money was spent, and even that which was spen
t, afforded the Company considerable knowledge in a whole new product area.

Qualifications:
o Strong background knowledge on CS
o Excellent on problem analysis
o Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
o Have software development experience
o Programming skill in one of C++/Java. Experience on Database is a plus.
o Fast learner, self motivated, team player
o Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
Responsibilities:
o Testing and development in research area.
o Candidate must have strong communication skills.
o Candidate must be able to work on multiple products simultaneously.
