Welcome back to our seminar. This is a heads-up/save the date message. This year (or at least this term) our seminar is going to be bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 12 noon EDT (which currently is 6pm in Europe, 12noon in Toronto, 9am in Tucson). We are going to start in two+ weeks, on Tuesday September 24, 2024.
For now we'll keep the Zoom coordinates the same:
Zoom at 99576627828
Passcode: 448487
The first talk at our seminar by Andrei Agrachev (SISSA-ISAS, Trieste, Italy) "Curvature of conformally Hamiltonian systems" will be on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 12PM EDT.
Abstract: The Riemannian geodesic flow can be viewed as a Hamiltonian flow on the cotangent bundle. From the Hamiltonian viewpoint, Riemannian sectional curvature is a basic differential invariant of the pair: the flow and the bundle. You may define this invariant for other Hamiltonian and conformally Hamiltonian systems; in particular, for mechanical systems with isotropic friction. I will discuss constructions of the curvature and some applications.
