Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce High Order Sliding Mode (HOSM) control, discussing its motivation, early developments, and more recent advancements such as super-twisting, prescribed time stabilization, and the use of the Marrier function. The majority of existing results in this field are grounded in Lyapunov function-based synthesis and homogeneity. To conclude, I will present novel ideas that link HOSM with inverse optimal control, acknowledging that this connection is still in its preliminary stage. This presentation is the result of collaborative work with L. Friedman, M. Harmouche, S. Laghrouche, P. Mason, H. Obeid, and W. Weng.
