Introduction to HAL
IBM SWG Hardware Acceleration Lab (HAL) is a WW team to incubate and drive delivery of system optimization spanning hardware acceleration and platform stack optimization for existing and new appliances. The team leverages rapidly evolving technology (from SSD to computational accelerators such as FPGA/GPU to high speed networks as well as latest x86/Power and z multi-core processors) and their applicability to workloads in partnership with IBM Research, STG and academia.CDL ETI HAL is one integrated part of WW HAL. It undertakes Mason project including pMason and zMason in last several years, which is an important initiative of IBM Workload-optimized systems strategy and aims to improve out-of-the-box performance by optimizing of IBM software such as DB2, WAS, CICS on system p and system z.
Job Description
This internship position provide the candidate opportunity to work with WW senior technical leaders on System Z, touch the core code of strategic software and play with leading edge technology in System Z field. The basic responsibility of the job role includes analyzing the performance character of the various workload, finding out the performance bottleneck of the whole stack, making the improvement plan, implementing it in the code and delivering it to the product. Now, the team was involved in ICBC Active-Active project, which provide a good platform to improve various skills. Beside, this is a CTO internship offer.
Job Requirement(skills/experiences)
Deep background on computer science or related area
Z/OS experience is required
Be familiar with IBM middleware such as DB2, CICS, MQ
Good programming language skills(C/C++, Cobol, JCL, REXX)
Familiar Performance tuning tools would be an asset
Workload and run-time optimization experience would be an asset
Fluent English skill
Self-starter, quick learner and good self-motivation
