Project outline:
Our study investigates the benefits and costs of the Top 1000 enterprise energy reduction program（千家企业节能） conducted by the NDRC (发改委) in China during 2005 -10. In order to isolate the effect of the Top 1000 program we need to control for the effect of any involvement of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
Brief description of assignment:
We will provide a list of firms that had registered for the CDM. In order to identify these CDM firms in our manufacturing firm database (CIE), you will need to
1)go onto the CDM website
https://cdm.unfccc.int/Projects/projsearch.html ;
2)search and download the Project Design Document (PDD) for each project;
3)find and translate the firm name in the PDD into Chinese language;
4)Go to
http://www.nacao.org.cn/. Find firm’s National Organization code and match the CDM firm to the CIE list using either firm name or organization code.
Dr. Leslie Martin will give a short instruction on how to match the firms.
Requirement:
·Fluent in both Mandarin and English
·Economic, policy, or environment – related major would be a plus
·Basic skills on Microsoft office
Rates:
We plan to hire 4 students for this RA work and pay AU$500 each. Each student will be given 500 CDM firms to match. The estimated hours of working is 30-35 hours per student depending on each student’s productivity. Once you are on board, we expect you to complete the task within 4 weeks with accuracy. This means that we will be checking a random sample for accuracy, and that if we find that more than 10% are matched incorrectly, we will need to give the job to someone else to do. Current exchange rate between Australian dollar and Chinese Yuan is 5.48 Yuan per AUD
