Group Overview

The database team at MSRA is working on transforming the Web into a structured database, as a first step of enabling machines to understand and reason about information. We work with web-scale data (the web repository, search log and other kinds of logs, etc) in large cluster systems. We focus on innovative research, but also encourage system building.

Roles & Responsibilities

Research areas include but not limited to:

       1 Web scale data management in distributed, parallel systems

       2 Information extraction, data cleansing, entity resolution, schema mapping and merging

       3 Semantic data, linked data, ontology data management

       4 Triple stores, Key/Value stores, Column stores

       5 Statistical and probabilistic models of large scale data, machine learning and data mining

Required Qualifications:

Applicants should have a solid background in data management and/or data analytics. In particular, applicants are expected to have:

1    broad knowledge and interest in computer science and mathematics, including  information theory, statistical inferences, database, natural language processing, systems, information retrieval, and related areas.

2    hands-on system and prototyping skills

3    excellent communication skills

4    team work spirit
