Job Function
QUALCOMM Corp R&D has a mission to advance core wireless communication technologies with emphasis on improvement in spectral efficiency, cost reduction, and user experience. Key innovations in current commercial technology such as 1x EV-DO were conceived and brought to market by corporate R&D. Now, leading edge research and implementation for next generation mobile technology based on CDMA and OFDMA are also a key focus.
Internship at Qualcomm R&D provides opportunities for active participation and contribution to engineering activities related to the evolution of mobile communication platform towards ever improved efficiency and capability. The activities include theoretical analysis, computer simulations, active participation in design and review sessions, contribution to QUALCOMM's IP portfolio, systems support for implementation related activities and submission of technical papers to relevant conferences and standards bodies.
QUALCOMM's Corporate Research & Development engineering team is looking for several interns to work at China Office on the following activities:
- Physical and MAC layer algorithm development and simulation
- Air interface technology performance characterization and enhancement
- System architecture development for new mobile service and applications
Skills/Experience
Solid background in digital communications and wireless systems with strong analysis and software development skills is required. Proven skills in the simulation of cellular network technologies to derive tradeoffs and to predict performance in diverse channel conditions is required.
Good understanding on at least one or more of the following areas is desired:
- Physical and MAC layer design considerations for key radio access technologies such as OFDM, OFDMA, and CDMA.
- Algorithsms for detection and estimation of radio signals in the presence of noise and interference
- Resource allocation and MAC (Medium Access Control) methods applicable to the design of mobile or WLAN broadband networks.
- Concepts on core network architecture of current and next generation mobile networks, including traditional cellular system and heterogeneous network.
- Advanced antenna technologies including beamforming, MIMO, and SDMA
Responsibilities
The candidate should be comfortable with UNIX/Win/Linux computing platforms and have demonstrated programming skills in C/C++/MATLAB.
Student must be available to work full-time for the months of July-September and at least part-time during the semester.
